How is this different from a dual-WAN router?

Most dual-WAN boxes fail over whole connections or load-balance by flow. MagNet bonds at the packet level inside an encrypted tunnel, so a single download or livestream can use every link — true bonding, not cheap multi-WAN failover.

Do I need proprietary SD-WAN hardware?

No. MagNet is software. Install on a Mac, PC, Pi, or OpenWrt router and use the NICs you already have — enterprise bonding modes without an appliance tax.

What is WAN smoothing vs Speed mode?

Speed stripes packets for maximum combined throughput. Redundant (WAN Smoothing) duplicates every packet on all paths — the receiver keeps the first good copy, eliminating perceptible loss on real-time apps. Enhance Streaming (Lossless Shield, on by default) does the same in Speed mode; if any link shows loss it stays active until reconnect. Failover uses one best path until it weakens.

Can my whole office use the bond?

Yes. Assign WAN ports as Bond inputs and a LAN port as Share output (Pair & Share / Edge). Devices that use the machine as their gateway ride the bonded tunnel with no app installed.

Will bonding always equal the sum of my ISPs?

You approach the sum of healthy paths, minus encryption and path overhead. Congested or one-way links (some phone hotspots) are excluded until they prove bidirectional. The control panel shows per-link Mbps and ISP so you can see the truth.
